*in a whiny teenager voice* I was not influence by Tolkien, you were influence by Tolkien... well maybe a little.

Lore Time: While the Tree of Alnur is a place where the First Elves were created from, they also believe it is the gateway to paradise in the afterlife. Some Religious scholars (manly the Catholic Church) believe the Tree is the same Tree in the Book of Genesis and have pointed out similarities to the Elvish faith and the Christian faith.

Sorry, I know talking religion tends to make people touchy like politics, but think of it as me sharing this insane world I'm making.^^

It is good to be cautious about politics and religion in your stories. Short stories might be able to ignore them, but anything of length or depth probably can't. There is, of course, the difference between such matters being part of a story, and such matters being the focus of the story. ;)

Your story takes place in a setting with ties to the real-world, so real-world religions are going to be a part of that... unless you want to risk turning those real-world elements into shells of themselves, and probably making it harder for those of us with a real-world faith to get into the story.

One of my pet peeves is how often an author can't let me maintain "plausible deniability" in their setting that clashes with my own faith... when either they are claiming that is the case, or when delving into such matters hasn't been important until "right now" in the story.
